THE HUMBLE PLAYING CARD

Magic is a subject I have been interested in for most of my life. Although to be truthful it's only in the past 20 years that I actually took the plunge to learn some of its most precious secrets. Like most beginners I jumped on board the merry go round and started to purchase almost every trick I could lay my hands on. However, I soon realised that Magic is not a cheap subject to get into, and for some reason most beginners are never satisfied to make the best use of just a handful of really good tricks. It seems to be a never ending craze, that every time you see a new trick you must acquire its secrets. Which leads me onto another side of magic. Once we have all of these secrets and want to show them to somebody, you will almost certainly require a large truck to accompany you to the venues, which is exactly what happened to me. Therefore, After spending a fortune setting up a large show that did not get off the ground, I sat back to rethink my strategy. It did not take me long to realise that I should keep my life's savings in my pocket and to just settle on a couple of easy tricks that I could carry around in my jacket pocket. Taking it a little further I also realised that the Humble Playing Card was one of the smallest items required to perform magic in front of an audience. Therefore it is my belief that the Humble Playing Card must be the way to go for me. Why even if I turned up at a Hotel having lost my deck of cards, I could still borrow a pack from the Local land lord. Now I know that they might be in a bad condition, but I'm sure a person who has practiced for several years would have the skill to do a couple of tricks for the patrons, however corny they looked.

With this in mind I have parted with all of my earlier magic props and settled on the Humble Playing Card. One thing I have not done was to go in to long drawn out card routines, that I believe the audience tire of very easy. No I like the short slick fast ones that keep coming and coming. Which is why I settled on the Ambitious card routines. There are hundreds if not thousands of versions around. I believe that almost every Magician in the world be able to perform something that would resemble an Ambitious card trick. So I have devoted most of my time trying to learn as many routines as possible. Although I have to add that with age creeping up on me, along with the pain of Arthritis in my hands it has curtailed my magic career to a personal use only.

Which leads me to the reason I have opened this site. I would like to hear from fellow magicians around the world on the subject of the card tricks and especially the Ambitious Card Routine. I also hope to add short video sequences (Prefably Digital Recordings) to the web page if magicians will send them to me. Because most of these routines are fast and slick so the videos will only last a couple of seconds.

Or maybe you would like to tell me why I should not try and run a site like this.

At the moment I would think that Daryl and Greg Wilson would be my favorite Card Magicians. What do you think??????
