Bands I've messed around in over the years

The Fabulous Chryslers

Photo Gallery

The birth of the ‘Fabulous Chryslers’ came about when Hans van Oyen, Len Lots and myself (Terry Aspinall) were performing around Brisbane under the band name of ‘Cross Cut’. During a practice session Len made a comment that he did not like the name, and that as we were playing the old style Rock n Roll we should be using a car name. He went on to mention that as far as he knew the only name not being used at that time was Chrysler. A few jokes followed that cause a lot of laughter between us. However, during the next practice session Len persisted with the name Chrysler. Hans was saying nothing, but I felt that the name ‘Fabulous’ should be added in front of the car name or whatever we were going to settle on.  I felt that the word Fabulous would create interest when people were running an eye down a long list of bands, when they went to an agent to book a band. Hans and I spent a little time discussing it further between ourselves. To the point that at the next practice we told Len that we liked his idea of using the car brand name Chrysler. However, we had added Fabulous in front of it . We went on to tell him that as we were two thirds of the group we had already voted the name in. Len was caught off guard and pleaded with us not to use it.  As far as he was concerned he had only offered the name Chrysler as a joke. The only two laughing at that time was Hans and myself as the name was adopted and the following is how it developed.

There have been a few musicians come and go in the ‘Fabulous Chryslers’. Hans van Oyen was the first singer, then Sharon Aspinall my daughter came in sing the girlies songs. Later after Sharon and Hans had moved on Len Lotz although being the Lead Guitarist in the band also took over the Singers role. Later Singer Guitarist Adam McAlister joined in to help. When Adam moved on  Len managed to find Steve Howland to take the Singers role, and also brought in Greg Marsh a Guitarist who also use a Synth. Bobby Gillette and Bill Brady were the drummers,  and I was the only Bass player.
