Stratus was formed from a group of drinkers at well known watering hole the ‘Waipukurau Hotel’ in New Zealand. Almost every drinker Hotel claimed to have played in a band at one time or another. To see who was bragging and who was telling porkies, a practice session was organised in the back room of the Hotel. Amazingly 12 guys turned up with their instruments and from that a 8 Piece band was formed. At the time I had a company selling Hang Gliders and Ultralights / Microlights known as 'Stratus'. The band members lead by David Sloan even named the band after my company. Over the years there have been several member changes. I left for Australia in March 1988 and David Sloan replaced me on Bass while David Taylor was brought in on rhythm guitar. Six months later Vickie Culshaw and Jo Billington were added as harmony singers. When Jo Billington moved over to Australia she was replaced by Nicky Seacock.
